The door closed, leaving the two of them in there to listen to the cacophony of their own, muffled screaming. Connie, full of spunk and enraged energy, shimmied and jerked her body up and over Steven's form, not stopping to consider how her knee to his stomach might hurt the poor man. She crawled her way over to the closet door, ranting and raving behind the gag, and she flung herself at the wood with intense fervor.
She banged her head against the door, trying not to hit too hard but still remain unfavourably loud, and when that became too painful, she spun around and slammed her heels into it, causing the door to rattle on its hinges, but not break. She wasn't about to let those things just walk away.
Steven's struggles were more personally focused, tugging on his ropes and turning over to one side before flipping over to another as he desperately tried to be free. This should be easy to him, he should be able to tear through these infernal things like they were string and gum alike, but they held him infuriatingly tight. He bit down on his gag, trying to tear through the material, and when that didn't work, he violently whipped his head from side to side to try to be rid of it.
Intensely they both struggled, both with the same goal in mind and different frustrations surrounding it all. Surely, at least one of them had to succeed, right?
Muffled screaming was taken over, largely, by exasperated panting, both of them losing steam. After staring at the ceiling for a moment, trying to catch his breath, Steven turned his head to the right and his eyes locked with Connie, their faces parallel but upside down in each other's view. They stared for a moment, as if sharing the same question; what do we do?
Steven furrowed his brow, feeling a sense of duty and determination fill him. By the looks of it, Connie shared the same feeling. Steven, once more, began thrashing wildly in his bindings, jerking and huffing and biting. Connie, too, resumed her assault on the door, kicking and grunting and swearing. In sync -- as most good couples are -- they shared the same, self-righteous thought; I'm going to get you out of this!
It was a lovely thought. It's a shame it didn't come true.
