Gaming Industry - Have we officially entered a CRASH?

Post by Void99 »

The term "crash" is often considered a very strong and over exaggerated term. Often over-used also over the last few years.
But this article does a fairly good job of summing things up.

Been looking on Amazon over the last 10 months and noticed the consoles becoming less and less available. Many times when they are not listed at all...instead of them being there with "currently sold out" tag on display. Just ....gone completely.

So less of a situation of them selling out, but rather retailers no longer want to store them in warehouses due to massive decline in purchases.
Prices being driven through the roof, demand has tumbled to a point they are a liability to retail storage spaces?

As AI data centres continue to drive up the cost of RAM, to where current consoles are unaffordable, and being at the tail end of a generation where the next systems will be even more expensive....how is this going to play out?

Starting to wonder if even GTA VI might be in trouble.
Recent unconfirmed rumours suggest the game is scheduled to release on PC in early 2027. Way sooner than expected.

One possible theory for this was the PS5 jailbreak situation, and Take 2 are worried the game may get pirated on PC as a result.
My own theory is that the combined sales of PS5 and Xbox Series S/X fall roughly 50 million short compared to what PS3 and Xbox 360 were at back in September 2013 for GTA Vs release.
And speculated budget costs for GTA VI range from 2-3 BILLION DOLLARS!

No we are hearing Microsoft are sending out emails to people in the USA who have been inactive on their Xbox, urging them to sell their console. WOW!
Apparently with the whole "RAMpocalypse" thing it cost them $1000 to manufacture a single console and are selling them at a $200 LOSS.
This would explain the scarcity of the console on places like Amazon. They had to cut production. This is how bad things have gotten.
Right before the release of what is considered the biggest game launch ever.

Even used PS5 Pro consoles are going for $1500 in the states now. Double the original brand new price!
Anyone hoping to snag a new console at the last minute for GTA VI .....don't know what to say.
This is unprecedented.
