I always think of Cassandra as the "other Batgirl" since that was her title in the 2000s while Barbara was stuck in a wheelchair as Oracle. Black Bat works just as well, since it would be rather confusing to have two protagonists both named Batgirl in a story like this. And indeed, her dynamic with Barbara is quite entertaining, and I think you struck just the right balance between making her character a "little sister" while also not forgetting her assassin roots.rufusluciusivan wrote: Sun Oct 26, 2025 8:26 am I came across Cassandra when I did some research for the story. I guess not having any comicbook knowledge was a plus here - the first mention of her I read online was as Black Bat, so I'm learning right now through you it's actually an identity she didn't have for long!
I had also forgotten that Jay, Lark, and Raven were (very minorly) added to the comics - much like Harley, following their introduction in the animated series. It seems like a lot of DC henchwomen only get their start in the animated shows; Mercy Graves was introduced in the Superman animated series and only brought into the comics a few years later. In any event, I agree that Jay, Raven, and Lark's designs are better in the original animated show than the comics.
The irony is that Stephanie Brown (who is usually known as "Spoiler" instead of Batgirl) has been a part of Batman comics since the early 90s, around the time the animated series premiered. She's unfortunately never gotten her full due - though I see what you mean about her overcrowding this short story.
Never say never...Though I guess I could upload the version of the scene featuring Stephanie as a sort of "non-canon cut content" if I get the motivation to finish its draft and if people are interested...
Ah, coulda fooled me.The Girls Night Out pun was an accident actually.
